“Unfortunate that he had to come out of it, but obviously … he’s throwing his body on the line. Then that should tell you what this team means and how close this team is.”
Pulisic was part of the unit that failed to qualify for the 2018 World Cup. Now, the 24-year-old is an American football hero. Tim Weah put it simply: “We love him, and we thank him.”

Pulisic says he’ll be “ready on Saturday” and it’s clear the USMNT will need him on the field if it wants to do any damage in the knockout stage. Without him in the second half, the USMNT overcame legitimate adversity.
Iran had several chances to tie the game, and a tie eliminated the US and sent Iran through to the next round.

Berhalter said, “I think in the first half we showed what we can do football-wise. It was a really good first half. In the second half we showed what we can do in terms of determination.” “The guys brewed and gave every ounce of energy, and we’re undefeated going into the next round.”
“We love these types of things. We love the pressure, we love the excitement,” McKennie said. “We are a young team, we have our own swagger, we have our own style, we have our own vibe that we play with, the way we connect with each other. You see we did it today. It was a jarring moment, but we got through it, and we’re excited to still be here.”

The World Cup really is one team against the world, but Weah has some extra motivation.
“I always say it’s us against the world, because No one believed that the U.S. We can play good football,” Weah said. “We’re just here trying to show the world. I guess nothing gets better than doing it with the people you love. Our family is in the stands, so we do this for them. And I’m really happy that we’re through to the next round, and it’s a beautiful day. It’s definitely a beautiful day.”
The USMNT will face the Netherlands on Saturday at 10PM ET.
