Woman removed from OPS primary school for not wearing mask

With only a few days left for the start of the new school year, Omaha Public School officials said Friday they would start the year with fewer bus drivers than needed.

A 33-year-old woman complained to police on Monday after she was forcibly evicted from an Omaha public school elementary school for refusing to wear a mask.

The incident took place at Picote Elementary School, 14506 Ohio St Ops at around 8:45 a.m. All students, teachers and parents are required to wear masks indoors at school.

The parents of a student of Picote told police that when she dropped her son off the school, they asked the school staff not to force him to wear a mask.

The woman told the police that as she was leaving, she saw her son wearing a mask as soon as he entered the building. The woman without wearing a mask said she tried to go inside the school to bring back her son, but was stopped by a security guard.

He told that the security guard grabbed his wrist and forcibly dragged him back out.

According to a police report, the woman complained of “considerable pain” in her wrist, but she did not suffer any injuries. She said she guessed she might have been hurt.

The security guard told police she had been called to the school specifically as a precaution because staff feared problems with the woman, who expressed concerns about the mask at an orientation meeting.

The security guard said he acted when the woman pushed the principal, who was trying to stop her from entering without a mask.
