Winnipeg loss prevention officers verbally threatened by aggressive burglar: WPS – Winnipeg | globalnews.ca

Winnipeg Police say Winnipeg Loss Prevention Officers (LPOs) were verbally threatened by an aggressive burglar at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Officers went to a retail business in the 2300 block of McPhillips Street after receiving a report of a person with a firearm.

They were met at the scene by loss prevention officers who arrested the two men they had arrested.

Police say a loaded gun was seized from a suspect and turned over to authorities.

During their investigation, officers learned that the suspects had gone into business and loss prevention officers observed one of them stealing merchandise.

Police say the suspect then tried to leave the store with the items but was caught by the LPO.

The suspect was brought into a secure holding room while security handled the other suspect. Police say the second suspect became aggressive with the LPO, which turned into a physical struggle.

While being handcuffed, police say the suspect verbally threatened the LPO and indicated he had a handgun.

Eventually, the suspect was securely handcuffed and a loaded handgun was found on his body.

Police say the first suspect identified himself under a false name while in custody.

The following items were seized:

  • Loaded 9mm 3D Printed Handgun
  • Magazine with 9mm ammunition
  • about $3,700 in currency
  • Approximately 180 -5mg Oxycodone Tablets (Estimated Street Value = $1,440)
  • Approximately 76 grams of meth (estimated street value = $3,800)
  • Approximately 138 grams of Down (Estimated Street Value = $20,700)

A 32-year-old man and a 30-year-old man from Winnipeg have been arrested and charged.
