wildfire that ignited overnight close to Highway 1 in Hope, B.C. near the Flood Falls Trail area, has grown  to 30 hectares in size, BC Wildfire says.

“We have around 22 personal working and five helicopters assigned, working closely with Hope Fire Department this morning,” Gordon Robinson, a BC Wildfire Service information officer, said Friday morning.

“The fire is in extremely steep terrain, with ground fires getting up into the trees.”

Forty more personnel are on the way to the fire, according to BCWS, as fire growth is expected throughout Friday.

“More growth is expected Friday, especially uphill, due to winds and the terrain,” said Robinson.

Residents in Hope saw the fire as late Thursday night.

Hope Fire Department was aware of the fire late Thursday, but was unable to access the fire due to the terrain.

The department’s fire chief, Tom DeSorcy, said that no properties are being threatened, in a Tweet, Friday morning.

Wildfire officials said they believe the fire has been caused by people.

On the DriveBC alert map, there is no reported interruption for drivers passing by on Highway 1, as of 7:40 a.m. Friday.
