Widow raped in Shirur, five arrested; Search continues for 3 more accused

The Pune Rural Police has arrested five persons for allegedly raping a widow in Shirur and is on the lookout for three more accused in the case. An FIR under sections 376(2)(f)(c)(k)(n), 376(d), 323, 506 of the Indian Penal Code was registered at Shirur police station in the matter. Thursday.

Inspector Sureshkumar Raut said, “We have received information that a widow is being sexually assaulted by several men.

We had sent a team of our Nirbhaya squad, which included women policemen, to meet the victim. The squad had spoken to the victim. It was known that she was a widow and taking advantage of her position some men raped her
Between April and May 2021 at different places and at different times. The victim wanted to file a complaint, but she did not have the proper knowledge and support. ,

“We informed his family members and registered an FIR. So far we have arrested five accused. The court has sent them to seven days’ police custody for further investigation. Search is on for three more accused.

According to the FIR, the eight accused people booked in the case are Mauli Pawar, Razak Pathan, Kalu Walunj, Vitthal Kale, Rajesh alias Pappu Gaikwad, Akash Gaikwad, Sandip Walunj and Navnath Walunj.

Police said that the accused threatened to kill the woman and forcibly had physical relations with her. Police said the victim has a son and a daughter, who live with a family member.
