India supported Russia on Crimea issue
Russia supported India on the nuclear test and in return India also supported Russia on the issue of Crimea. This is from February-March 2014. Many countries, including Ukraine, the US and the European Union, strongly condemned Russia’s move and imposed many economic sanctions against Russia. During this time Russia was also thrown out of the G8 group. During this too, India supported Russia by saying that it would not support sanctions against Russia.
Russia supported India on Article 370 by saying that it is an internal matter of India.
Russia remained with India on Kashmir issue too
Talking more about relations with India and Russia, Russia has always openly supported India on the Kashmir issue as well. Russia also supported India in the matter of removing Article 370 from Kashmir. Whereas, many countries including Turkey had called this move of India provocative. Russia’s biggest importance for India is that 70 percent of India’s weapons are imported from Russia itself. Apart from this, India is also largely dependent on Russia for machinery parts.
