Director Sujoy Ghosh explains why actor Shashwat Chatterjee was replaced? Sujoy Ghosh cited the example of filmmaker Satyajit Ray reprising the same character in different films, and said that if he had directed Bob Biswas, he would have retained Chatterjee in the role. “I am saying that it is not impossible to recreate the world of Bob Biswas where Saswata, who played Bob earlier, can be cast. In fact, if I was directing the film, Saswata would have been an option, but Diya is directing the film and that’s the choice she made. He has an attitude towards the film. Our idea is to make a new film in which Bob’s world is different from what we have seen in the story.”
He further added, “Choosing a new actor to play the role of Bob Biswas was a very conscious decision as I wanted to move away from the story, this is not that film. The world of this film is different. It is a new film. , which has a stand of its own. Through this film we have tried to create a new world of Bob Biswas, giving a new perspective to the story. In fact, this is one of the reasons why I did not direct the film. Previous When Bob was introduced in the film, his presence was only eight minutes. Now, we have the full story on that.”
Incidentally, a similar situation came to the fore recently when Abhishek was replaced in the comedy sequel Bunty Aur Babli 2. Instead Saif Ali Khan was cast along with Rani Mukerji, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Sharvari Wagh.
