West Bengal: COVID cases rise to 683; 13 more die of virus

number of new COVID-19 West Bengal saw a slight jump in cases from 592 on Tuesday, with 683 cases being reported in the last 24 hours. The fresh cases took the total to 53,63,393.

The state reported 13 Covid deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total toll to 18,691. North 24 Parganas district had the highest number of 5 deaths on Wednesday, followed by Kolkata and Howrah with 3 each.

With 687 more Covid patients discharged on Thursday, the cumulative number of recoveries increased to 15,36,978. The state’s number of active cases currently stands at 7,724, out of which 6,364 patients are in home isolation and 227 in safe homes. At present, the number of Kovid patients in hospitals is 3.50 percent.

37,181 samples were tested on Wednesday, taking the cumulative figure to 7,83,4,323 samples. The case positivity rate in the state is 1.84 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 5,58,820 vaccine doses were given in the state. The total number of jobs is 5,35,37,685.
