Biden seeks contractor to run migrant facility on Gitmo with Haitian Creole-speaking guard

The Biden administration is looking to hire a private contractor to operate a little-known migrant detention facility in Cuba’s Guantanamo Bay that will be able to temporarily hold 400 illegal immigrants.

of government contract opportunity suggests that ‘a minimum of 10% of augmented personnel must be fluent in Spanish and Haitian Creole’ – indicating that they plan to send some of the Haitian migrants to the island US Naval Base.

On hearing of contract request from immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was angry.

‘Extremely embarrassing’, she said Twitter.

Progressive lashing out at images emerged over the weekend of Border Patrol officers and agents using what appeared to be whips to mobilize a huge group of migrants on the US side of the border with Mexico .

The images were slammed as ‘inhuman’ and ‘horrible’, despite Texas Border Patrol agents denying they had whipped migrants.

President Joe Biden’s administration is seeking private contractors to run a migrant detention facility in Guantanamo Bay – a facility that holds 120 people they hope will be able to temporarily house 400 people.

The migrant detention facility at Guantanamo Bay has a capacity of 120 people, but government documents are requesting that the site maintain up to 400 in-house equipment.

According to the document, the facility will have an estimated daily population of 20 people, although the service provider will be responsible for maintaining on-site the equipment needed to set up temporary housing facilities for a population of over 120 and up to 400 migrants. Competition.’

The occasion was first posted on September 17th – days before news broke of the arrival of massive Haitian migrant camps over the course of three weeks near the Del Rio International Bridge.

At the height, about 15,000 migrants set up a makeshift camp in the Texas town. As of Tuesday, the number had dwindled to ‘below 10,000’, according to Alejandro Meyercas, Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

The reduction comes amid a massive deportation effort on the part of DHS to finally address the growing southern border crisis. Expulsion flights from the US began on Sunday for the migrants’ homeland.

This caused thousands of mostly Haitian migrants to return to Mexico from the Del Rio camp to escape deportation in Haiti.

Considering the DHS is looking for Haitian Creole-speaking people to be stationed at the Guantanamo Bay migrant detention center, it appears the administration may be ready to send a group of some Haitian citizens there.

The contract opportunity says they need to provide tents, bunks, the ability to set them up with short notice and a staff of at least 50 people who meet the job classification requirements of an unarmed custody officer.

This is the latest effort by the administration to mitigate the migration crisis at the southern border, especially in the ever-evolving and fluctuating landscape.

This contract requires any employee to be able to deploy to the location ‘within 24 hours of notification’.

Gitmo, as it is known as the US Naval Base in Cuba, is mostly known for the imprisonment of Middle-Eastern-based terrorists who posed a threat to US national security.

The camp, known for its indefinite imprisonment without trial, was established in January 2002 by the administration of President George W. Bush during the War on Terror in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Of the 780 people detained there since then, 731 have been transferred, 39 have remained there, and 9 have died in custody.
