Village fury as Tobias MP Tobias Ellwood ‘runs over 1,000 pound cat … and walks away’

Village fury as Tobias MP Tobias Ellwood ‘gets over 1,000-pound cat… and drives’: thugs smash windows after being accused of killing Bengal’s moggy and leaving him for dead Throw eggs at politician’s house

  • Tobias Ellwood constituents claim Tory MP trampled to death a Bengal cat
  • It is said that the MP drove him into the narrow lane without stopping
  • It is said that soon after the incident the windows of the parliamentarians’ house were smashed with crochet mallets and eggs were thrown at them.

He was hailed as a hero for trying to save the life of a police officer who was stabbed during the Westminster terror attack.

But now Tobias Ellwood, who was tipped to become leader of the party in 2019, is in disgrace with his own constituents who claim the Tory MP killed a cat and then left without stopping.

The play began when Mr. Elwood was driving along a narrow street that leads to the village where he lives with his wife, Hannah and sons. His car is said to have hit a male Bengal cat whose frightened owners, the Hawa family, had reportedly left their dying pet petting as the MP drove away.

Police got involved after windows in Mr Elwood’s £1 million converted barn were said to have been smashed with a croquet mallet and an egg thrown at it shortly after the incident.

Mr Elwood – a former army captain who made headlines in 2017 when he went to the aid of PC Keith Palmer, who was fatally stabbed by terrorist Khalid Masood outside the Palace of Westminster – is believed to have was offered to provide a replacement Bengal cat – which could cost as much as £1,000.

The historic village of Holdenhurst, near Bournemouth in Dorset, has a population of about 100, including the Elwoods and Hawa families.

Havas did not want to elaborate on the incident, but a family member told the Daily Mail: ‘We just want to mourn our cat. We have nothing to do with Tobias Ellwood.’

As well as the late Bengal, which was striped gold and brown, the family has a short-haired pointer dog, Bella, and a tortoise called Timmy.

The cat was allowed to go out at will into the surrounding countryside through a catflap.

A neighbor, speaking on condition of anonymity, said there was a simple reason why Mr Elwood did not stop the car, adding: ‘Apparently he didn’t know he did it until later.’

But Julie Holland, 61, who lives opposite the former monastery owned by Stephanie Hawa, 61, was less sympathetic. Mrs Holland said: ‘Tobias Ellwood ran over the cat a few weeks ago. Everyone in the village is talking about it.

‘It’s a disgrace. This is a Bengal cat who used to come on the street to play with my cat Boris, who is named after the prime minister. People drive so fast here, even though there is a 30mph limit sign.

Ellwood’s house was attacked after apparently this happened. If he had done this to my cat, I would have done something about it.’

Mrs Holland said she also has a Boxer dog named Stanley, named after Mr Johnson’s father, adding: ‘I am still a supporter.’

Mr Elwood, 55, has not been a supporter of his former party leader and was one of the first to file a letter of no confidence in him.

Another neighbor said eggs had been thrown at Elwoods’ home in the past few weeks.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said last night: ‘We received a report on Saturday, 28 May 2022 at 2.47 pm regarding damage to a property in the village of Holdenhurst, Bournemouth.

“The officers inquired and the parties involved were identified and spoken to. After contact with all parties, the matter was settled through a community resolution. No arrests were made.

Mr Elwood declined to comment last night. A friend of the MP for Bournemouth East said: ‘The matter has been resolved.’
