A suspect injured in a police shooting in Vancouver has now been charged, and Global News has learned that a police service dog narrowly escaped during the incident.

Robin Landru Price, 52, is charged with running away from police, dangerous driving, possessing a banned or restricted firearm, assaulting a peace officer and using a firearm to commit a felony on a police officer.

At approximately 8:45 on the night of July 16, Vancouver police responded to a 911 call about a break-in at a building near Gore Avenue and Railroad Street.

When an officer tried to stop the vehicle leaving the area, the driver allegedly failed to stop and drove into an area near Commercial Drive and East 2.Ra Avenue, where “the shots were fired” according to Sgt. Steve Edison.

Later police service dog jade Global News has learned that the suspect allegedly took out a revolver and fired it over the head – but missed.

That shot alerted his handler to draw his weapon.

The VPD said that no police officer was physically injured.

Police said the suspect, armed with a gun, was being treated at a hospital for unidentified injuries.

Jade received medical treatment and she and her handler have since returned to work.

The Independent Investigation Office, the province’s police watchdog, continues to investigate the incident.

Price is scheduled to appear in court on July 26 for a bail hearing.
