Tornado hits six states, kills at least 50: Live Updates

New York Governor Cathy Hochul has deployed emergency response assets to major counties in western New York as the region prepares for a strong weather front that is expected to bring strong winds and rain through Saturday night.

A High Wind Warning is currently in effect for western New York and the Adirondacks, with gusts of 50-70 mph, CNN Weather reports.

Power cuts are on the rise in the region with 174,779 customers currently without electricity.

Winds are expected to drop into the 30-40 mph range overnight, but they can still cause tree limbs to break down and bring down power lines.

The warning expires on Sunday morning and the winds are expected to ease by Sunday afternoon.

“The western New York, Finger Lakes and North County regions should prepare for extreme weather across the state later today, including strong winds and devastating flooding,” Governor Hochul said in a statement. Press release Saturday.

High wind warnings have been issued for Allegany, Cataragus, Cayuga, Chautauqua, Clinton, Erie, Franklin, Genesee, Jefferson, Lewis, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Ontario, Orleans, Oswego, St. Lawrence, Wayne and Wyoming counties.
