Texas Police Pursuit: Range Rover Suspect Arrested in Swim Trunk After Flying Through Golf Course

Cyprus, Texas (KTRK) – It is not moving.

Golfers who were hitting the links at the Cypress Lakes golf course earlier this week found an unexpected obstacle — a police chase that involved a Range Rover that was driving on the course.

One of the golfers, Philip Morgan, got through his game on a black luxury SUV blow-through, with a constable deputy running right behind.

“Then, I saw a police car and it was like being in Grand Theft Auto,” Morgan recalled. “It was kind of extreme.”

Two men inside the Range Rover, later identified as 20-year-old Gray Martinez and 19-year-old Trevor Passmore, kept on driving when the deputy tried to pull them over to a traffic stop.

“I’m glad no one got hurt, because there were so many people on the golf course, which could have ended in a terrible way,” Morgan said.

According to a news release from Precinct 4, the constable’s Special Operations Unit attempted to stop, but the driver refused to comply. This led to a brief chase which resulted in the driver losing control and crashing in the Fairfield subdivision.

The constable’s office said the two men left the vehicle on foot and a perimeter was quickly established.

Sources told ABC13 that Martinez dropped an AK-47 while running from the car and that Passmore was in his swimming pool before being taken into custody.

“With the aid of a constable canine, the driver was apprehended and identified as Gray Martinez. He spat on a deputy while in custody,” read a constable’s office news release.

As part of the arrest announcement, the constable’s office posted photos of each suspect, handcuffed wearing just swim trunks. Martinez, in particular, was bleeding in the face.

Followed up the same morning, Martinez was expected to pursue the court that Precinct 4 said led them in December of 2021.

Sources said that in that case, he was out of the car with the deputy, handed over his driver’s license and then ran back to his vehicle and took off.

The chase was followed for five miles before ending at some point on the Northwest Freeway.

According to sources, the deputy went to the address listed on Martinez’s driver’s license and met his parents. He later turned himself in.

This week, both men were incarcerated in the Harris County Jail. Martinez’s bond was set at $30,000 for charges including felony driving in a motor vehicle and harassment of a public servant.

Passmore was charged with evading arrest with a $100 bond set.

The constable’s office did not immediately disclose the reason for the original traffic stop.

ABC13 reached out to attorneys for both men, but did not hear back.
