Tamil Nadu: IMD has predicted extremely heavy rainfall till November 11

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday that extremely heavy rainfall is likely to occur over parts of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh on November 10 and 11. The forecast warns of flooding in low-lying areas as well as catchment areas of reservoirs and lakes. .

A cyclonic circulation lies over southeast Bay of Bengal and a low pressure area is very likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal in next 24 hours extending up to troposphere level over adjoining south Andaman Sea. The weather system is very likely to move west-northwestwards by the morning of November 11, which will concentrate into a depression, which is likely to reach near North Tamil Nadu coast.

The IMD said heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur over Tamil Nadu on November 8 and 9 and heavy to very heavy at isolated places on November 10 and 11. It is also very likely to fall at isolated places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh during the same period.

While parts of Chennai city, including residential areas and roads, were flooded on Monday, the water was receding to a great extent on Monday.

Chief Minister MK Stalin, who visited most of the affected areas on Sunday, continued his inspection on Monday as well.

Leader of Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami also visited the rain-hit areas on Monday evening and alleged that the DMK government has failed to take adequate precautionary measures to face the northeast monsoon.
