Mohali’s civil surgeon seeks public support to check dengue outbreak

In view of the increasing cases of dengue fever, the District Health Department (DHD) had once again appealed to the people not to allow water to stagnate anywhere in and around their homes and wear clothes covering the entire body.

Civil Surgeon Dr Adarsh ​​Pal Kaur said that everyone needs to take precautions to prevent the disease. He further said that in case of dengue fever one should not panic but should visit the government health facility, where dengue test and treatment is absolutely free.

Appealing for cooperation and support from the people for the prevention of dengue, he said that the district can be made dengue free only with the cooperation of the people. He said that continuous monitoring and awareness campaign is being conducted by the teams of DHD in the entire district since March. A total of 13 teams are regularly checking coolers, fridge trays, utensils, empty tyres, boxes and other containers. The civil surgeon said, ‘It is important to understand that simple fevers which can be treated at home. In general, platelet counts are low with most viral fevers and not all fevers should be confused with dengue. In case of dengue fever, good intake of fluids, healthy home food and complete rest is required.”

He said that dengue patients have high fever for five to six days and once the fever subsides, the number of platelets may decrease. He said that goat’s milk, kiwi fruit or coconut water does not help in increasing platelets in any way and patients should consume plenty of fluids like water, juice, lemonade, coconut water etc. “Drink at least two liters of water every day.” he said.
