Tamil Nadu CM launches 1 lakh electricity connection scheme for ryots, criticizes AIADMK regime for irregularities

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Thursday launched the one lakh agricultural electricity connection scheme here and criticized the previous AIADMK regime for “ruining” the state-run electricity corporation.

At a function held at the Anna Centenary Library Auditorium, Stalin distributed orders to provide electricity connections – for pumpsets – to 10 farmers to mark the launch of the Rs 3,025-crore scheme.

The one lakh connection scheme will be useful from generation to generation, he said, “Since farmers will be benefitted, they will produce food not only for them but for the people of the entire state.”

The scheme was recently announced in the state assembly during the Demand for Grants (2021-22) for the Energy Department.

Stalin cited figures to say that only two lakh electricity connections were given in the last 10 years during the AIADMK regime. Whereas almost four months after assuming office in May, his government is now providing one lakh connections. “This is the difference between AIADMK and DMK-led governments.” The Chief Minister further said, “There is no other government in India which is so quick.”

Referring to a recently passed resolution in the Tamil Nadu Assembly against the Centre’s three agricultural laws, he said governments led by his party, the DMK, have always been farmers’ rule. “Farmers certainly won’t forget it.”

Former Chief Minister M. Listing of initiatives taken during the tenure of Karunanidhi Related to the Cauvery issue, waiver of farm loans (co-operative banks) worth Rs 7,000 crore, providing land to landless farm laborers and providing free electricity to farmers, Stalin said introducing one lakh electricity connections to farmers is the new addition.

One need not think that the government-run power unit is thriving as one lakh connections were being provided and most of them were being given free of cost, he said and alleged that the previous AIADMK The power corporation was ruined during the rule.

The state-owned Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (known as TNEB) is the holding company and has two subsidiaries, TN Generation and Distribution Corporation and Tamil Nadu Transmission Corporation.

This is the achievement of the AIADMK government (2011-21). The electricity board has a debt of Rs 1.59 lakh crore and has to repay Rs 16,000 crore annually as interest.

The Chief Minister alleged that the AIADMK government bought power at exorbitant prices and in reality there were discrepancies in the coal stock and quantity recorded in the registers at thermal power stations.

He said during the previous AIADMK regime there was only “53 MW installed capacity” as plans for installed capacity of 1,481 MW during its period included 1,428 MW projects during the DMK regime (2006-11).

Stalin said his government had taken all steps to start state-run power entities and listed initiatives such as new power generation projects and quick maintenance work.

Project work to generate 17,980 MW of electricity during the next ten years has begun and projects – already in the planning phase – are being expedited.

For the first time in the state, a solar power park will be set up at Tiruvarur, and recently, TANGEDCO entered into an agreement with the Renewable Energy Development Agency of India to develop renewable energy projects and raise the requisite fund of Rs 1,32,500 crore Is. , he said.

The one lakh electricity connection scheme for farmers, which has just been launched, has the sole aim of increasing agricultural production, he said, adding, “Let this be the foundation of Tamil Nadu’s agricultural revolution and help this (scheme) increase the area. Farming.”

He urged the beneficiaries to use electricity only for the requirement as power generation is highly costly.
