Police in Stratford, Ontario, have released video of an officer being dragged by a stolen truck past a Canadian Tire gas bar.

According to a release, the incident occurred late Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. when police were searching for a stolen black Dodge Ram pickup truck.

An officer spotted the truck with a man and woman inside the Canadian Tire Gas Bar on Ontario Street.

He says the officer saw the man leaving the store at the gas bar and approached him but pushed him to the ground.

Before the officer could apprehend him, the suspect ran toward the truck and climbed into the passenger seat.

The officer tried to force the suspect out of the truck cab before the woman in the driver’s seat stepped on the gas, pulling the cop who grappled with the man.

As the truck sped away, the officer fell to the ground. After that the pickup got faster.

On Wednesday, Woodstock police found the pickup truck again with the man and woman inside.

The truck was stopped for a train in Dublin when police tried to box it in but this time the man behind the wheel slammed the pickup into a police car.

He then fled on foot but was soon caught by the police. They say he continued to resist but officers were eventually able to subdue him.

The woman has been arrested from the truck. The pair were then taken to Stratford Police Headquarters.

The man and woman face multiple charges of dangerous driving and theft in relation to the incident.

Police say the officer who was dragged was taken to a hospital to be treated for his injuries and has since been released. He is said to be at home to recover and will be away from work for some time.

Stratford Police say, “A video of the incident has been included to emphasize the danger of this situation.”
