Parsana village is four kilometers away from Amethi. Gayatri Prajapati resides here. Father Sukai Ram was a potter. But if Gayatri’s mind was not engaged in this work, then he started doing the work of painting.

Indira Gandhi was murdered in the year 1984, Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister of the country. Then he was the MP of Amethi. He got Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) factory established in Korwa area for development in his area. From here the days of Painter Gayatri changed.

The factory building was completed. Gayatri had got a big contract for its painting. Money came from this, people still say they were painters.

Everything was going well, then one day Rajiv came to the factory to take stock of the work. Long lines of police and vehicles only vehicles back and forth. It is said that only after seeing Rajiv’s convoy on that day, the color of politics came on the painter Gayatri.

Painter Babu set out to revolutionize the bucket
The politics of UP was changing. People were turning away from Congress. Kanshi Ram, Mayawati and Mulayam were emerging in UP. In 1993, a new party came into the limelight in Amethi. The name was Bahujan Kranti Dal. The election symbol is bucket and the candidate’s name is Gayatri Prajapati.

After the defeat in the first election, Gayatri did not give up. He kept going among the people of Amethi. During this, his recognition in the area started increasing. This picture is from Gayatri’s early days in politics.

In the 1993 election, Gayatri got only 1500 votes. But this election changed the identity of the painter Gayatri. Some people called Netaji and some people started calling them property dealers.

Dayaram becomes godfather for Gayatri
In 1996, Gayatri reached Lucknow for a land deal. Here he met Dayaram Prajapati. Dayaram… who was MLC from SP and also Mulayam’s favorite. Gayatri knew this. He did all the work of Dayaram with such promptness that one day Daya himself went to Mulayam with Gayatri.

Dayaram Prajapati was MLC from SP. Dayaram was the first person who introduced Gayatri to Mulayam Singh. From here the political journey of Gayatri started in SP.

Gayatri was just waiting for this moment. Assembly elections were to be held this year. Mulayam was also looking for backward caste leaders. Gayatri was from Amethi. Mulayam knew that the time had come to change the politics of Amethi. He got Gayatri contested from Amethi on SP ticket.

Gayatri lost the election again, but did not dare
Mulayam’s bet also failed. Amethi was again in the hands of Congress. Ram Harsh Singh of Congress won by getting 36,069 votes. Gayatri was third with 25,112 votes. BJP’s Jamuna Mishra was second with 31,870 votes.

But even after coming at number three, he did not lose. From 1996 to 2002, Gayatri was involved in strengthening the SP on the ground along with Mulayam. Several SP rallies were also taken out in Amethi.

There is no dearth of fans of Gayatri Prajapati in Amethi. While being a minister here, Gayatri had distributed cycles to the people and provided financial support. On its own strength, Gayatri created a big vote bank.

Mulayam himself came to Amethi and asked for votes for Gayatri, but did not get it.
In the 2002 assembly elections, Mulayam again gave ticket to Gayatri. Amethi political analyst Pawan Shukla says, “Mulayam had come to Amethi in 2002 to campaign for Gayatri. Thousands of people had gathered in the rally held near the Amethi headquarters. Mulayam then said by placing his hand on Gayatri’s head.

Then Mulayam had said, “Gayatri is like our son. Make it win with huge votes. The public did not understand this statement of Mulayam and Gayatri lost the election from Amethi for the third time also.

Mulayam cut the ticket
Shukla further explains, “The party workers questioned Gayatri’s leadership due to the continuous defeat of the SP in Amethi. It later reached soft. This is the reason why Mulayam cut Gayatri’s ticket in 2007.”

Coin flip in 2012
In fact, it happened that Rajesh Kumar, whom SP had fielded in 2007 after cutting Gayatri ticket, was also defeated. Then in the year 2011, the convention of SP was held in Agra. Mulayam and Ram Gopal Yadav were present on the stage. Gayatri grabbed the opportunity well.

Year 2013: CM Akhilesh Yadav expanded the cabinet. Gayatri got the status of Minister of State in Irrigation Department. Political expert Vivek Gupta says, “Akhilesh may have taken Gayatri in his cabinet. But he didn’t like them. Therefore, he removed Gayatri from the irrigation department of Shivpal and was given independent charge of the mining department in 2013 itself.

Gayatri Prajapati was given independent charge in the mining department in 2014. Then he became a cabinet minister.

first case: Omprakash of Pratapgarh that Gayatri to the Lokayukta had created many benami properties while being a minister. In the complaint, Dwivedi said, “Gayatri has deposited property worth 300 crores in Mohanlalganj in the name of family members and friends.” However, Dwivedi later withdrew the complaint.

Second case: Nutan Thakur, wife of UP IPS officer Amitabh Thakur, made a big allegation on Gayatri. “Gayatri has accumulated assets worth more than 1000 crores from illegal mining,” he said in the complaint.

Third case: Abhayraj Yadav of Sultanpur of disproportionate assets against Gayatri. On this, when Judge NK Mehrotra sought information, Yadav could not give any answer. After this the investigation of the case was closed.

Fourth case: Mahendra Kumar of Amethi accused 50 people of buying benami properties with Gayatri’s money. Then Justice Mehrotra issued summons to all the people. Most of these people said that they had bought properties with their own money. There was no evidence against Gayatri in the case.

Fifth case: Yashwant Singh, a resident of Sonbhadra, regarding illegal mining to Gayatri. It was told that the minister has given protection to illegal miners. From this he has acquired many benami properties.

When Akhilesh snatched the minister’s post, there was a fight in the Yadav family.
All these complaints happened in the SP government. The opposition started besiaging. The image of the party began to deteriorate. Akhilesh removed Gayatri from the post of cabinet minister. But by then Gayatri had become so powerful that after his departure, there was a rift in the Yadav family.

Mulayam and Shivpal were angry with Akhilesh’s decision. Later due to family pressure, Akhilesh again made Gayatri a minister in the 8th cabinet expansion. After taking oath as the minister, Gayatri touched Akhilesh’s feet on the stage itself.

Year 2017 came as time
On 18 February 2017, the day Saturday, the first phase of voting was done in the assembly elections. Akhilesh was busy campaigning. Then a minor girl from Chitrakoot lodged a complaint of rape against Gayatri and her 6 friends.

In the complaint given at Gautampalli police station in Lucknow, the victim alleged that Gayatri made her unconscious by mixing intoxicants in tea at the government residence. Then raped her along with his friends for three years.

Gayatri suffered another setback on 11 March 2017. He lost the election. BJP’s Garima Singh got 63912 votes. Gayatri stood second with 58941 votes.

On 12 November 2021, the MP-MLA court sentenced Gayatri and her two friends Ashok Tiwari and Ashish Shukla to life imprisonment. After Gayatri was punished, Maharaji Devi kept avoiding appearing in front of the media.
