A Guelph police officer would not face charges.

It stems from an investigation in Ontario special investigation unit A man’s rib fracture was involved during his arrest on March 18.

SIU says a patrol officer spotted a vehicle heading north on Highway 6, south of Marden Road, which was later to be driven by someone who was banned from driving a motor vehicle .

The SIU says the vehicle sped away after an initial traffic stop before the gas ran out.

The SIU says the officer managed to get the driver down on the ground, and his left knee was on his back while trying to handcuff him.

The 28-year-old driver was later taken to the hospital, where the injury was detected.

SIU director Joseph Martino says the man suffered injuries during the arrest, but the officer did nothing illegal.
