SHA employee sacked for embezzling funds from residents’ trust accounts globalnews.ca

The Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is reporting that an employee has been terminated following an investigation. erratic activity In trust accounts of several residents at Northland Pioneers Lodge in Meadow Lake.

Irregular payments were made from the resident’s trust account for cash and purchased items, according to a statement.

The SHA said they referred the matter to the RCMP and charges were laid.

The former employee entered a guilty plea and was ordered by the court to pay restitution of $13,374.

The compensation payment was received on October 17, 2022. The Saskatchewan Health Authority reimbursed residents for the remaining $2,262 that was not covered by the indemnity.

New procedures have been put in place with regard to purchases made by residents, according to the statement.

SHA says it has completed training sessions for staff in SHA’s East Prairie North region who are responsible for handling resident accounts and cash. He says that now continuous review is being done.

For confidentiality reasons, SHA says they cannot disclose the employee’s name, role, department or regulatory body.
