Washington — Second Gentleman doug emhoff tested positive for Covid on Tuesday, prompting Kamala Harris to skip an evening program “out of caution”, office of the vice president said.
Harris tested negative on Tuesday, his office said.
“Earlier today, another gentleman tested positive for COVID-19,” Sabrina Singh, Deputy Press Secretary to the Vice President, said in a statement on Tuesday. “Very carefully, the Vice President will not participate in tonight’s event. The Vice President tested negative for COVID-19 today and will continue to test.”
Harris accompanied President Joe Biden for a bill signing event earlier in the day, while Amhoff, 57, attended an event at the Marvin Gaye Greening Center in DC, which hosted a team of AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps members. Biden announced Amhoff’s COVID diagnosis Tuesday evening at an event on equal pay for women. She said that Harris and Emhof were feeling well, adding that she was not attending the event as a precaution.
“Very carefully she decided not to join us today, but let’s send her our love,” Biden said.
The White House said Biden tested negative on Sunday, his most recent test.
According to two White House officials, Biden is not considered close to Emhoff.
Over the weekend, Biden’s previous running mate, former President Barack Obama, announced that he had test positive For Covid-19.
“I have a sore throat for a few days now, but I am feeling fine. Michelle and I are grateful to be vaccinated and promoted, and she has tested negative,” Obama said in a tweet.
The Biden administration last month ended the mask requirement at the White House for people who had been fully vaccinated. Amhof has been fully vaccinated and got a booster shot Last year.
