SC East Bengal’s winning streak continues, 1-1 draw with Hyderabad

SC East Bengal continued their winning streak after a 1-1 draw by Hyderabad FC in an Indian Super League match here on Thursday.

The draw helped the Nizam jump to the second spot in the points table and extend their unbeaten run to six matches.

However, the Red and Gold Brigade emerged victorious in eight matches.

Amir Dervesevic (20th minute) gave SC East Bengal an early lead against the run-of-play with a brilliant free-kick, but Bartholomew Ogbeche (35th) scored with a header to level the match.

After a cautious start from both the teams, Joel Chianis made Arindam Bhattacharya’s first test in the 12th minute.

However, it was SC East Bengal that went ahead thanks to a powerful direct free-kick from outside the box by Amir Dervesevic.

The mid-fielder scored with a left footed shot that caught Laxmikant Kattimani inadvertently, who should have done better to save the effort.

Daniel Cheema Chuku missed a great opportunity to double his team’s lead by sending his shot wide into a face-off position just before the half-hour mark.

After the drinks break, Hyderabad FC increased the intensity and scored through Bartholomew Ogbeche.

A pinpoint cross from the left flank by Aniket Jadhav got the head of Ogbeche, who smoothly guided the ball past the goalkeeper.

Minutes after the equalizer, Mohammad Rafiq blasted the ball against the crossbar with a powerful shot from outside the box after being trimmed by Chukwu. Both teams went into the break on equal terms.

Manolo Marquez sent in Sahil Tavora as a halftime replacement in place of Rohit Danu. The second half saw both teams cancel each other out and both strategists made personnel changes to change the tone of the game.

In the 85th minute, Sahil Tavora tried from a long distance to get Arindam Parry away from the shot. To the goalkeeper’s relief, the rebound from Severio went wayward.

Despite everything being thrown in the extra seven minutes, neither side found a winner and the game ended on even terms.

Hyderabad FC will play Odisha FC in their next match on December 28 at the Athletic Stadium, while SC East Bengal have a long rest period before facing Bengaluru FC on January 4.
