‘He knocked on some doors and the man in the next house did the same. I think he knocked on some doors across the street,’ Scott said.

‘But the first thing we heard about it was when sirens lit up the street – we came out to see what was happening but there were no sirens, just lights.’

He said Al Sri stayed with Obi, who had suffered 90 percent burns, until an ambulance arrived 35 minutes later.

The father is in critical condition at the Royal Brisbane Hospital – but if he survives, Al may have saved his life.

A few weeks before the tragedy, Ms Mudge wrote a cryptic post on Facebook under the title ‘Relationship Rules’.

‘It’s not poisonous bro,’ she wrote.

Ms. Mudge, who runs her own photography business, also has several pictures of Mr. Obi and his children on her social media pages.

Just four days ago, she was on a local Facebook page asking people for advice on her son’s snail garden.

Superintendent Mark White said there was no evidence that a Molotov cocktail was thrown, and he believed Ms Mudge “somehow entered and was able to throw petrol in there once again”.

Police cannot believe that someone else was involved in this.

During a press conference on Thursday morning, police said Mr Obi and his accomplice had been living in the house for nearly six months.

Detectives have yet to interview the surviving woman and have appealed to the public for information.

A resident said fire engines and police sirens woke him up at 3 am.

He wrote on social media, ‘I could (easily) see the fire from the 10 meter high mine.’

A spokeswoman for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services told Daily Mail Australia that the property was ‘well surrounded’ when four workers arrived at the scene.

“Partly the roof collapsed,” he said.

Firefighters tried to control the fire for more than two hours.

A crime scene has been declared at the scene with forensic detectives expected to be present this morning.
