Residents of troubled lakeside Pointe at Nora apartment are struggling to stay warm

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Many residents of Lakeside Point at Nora Apartments are trying to survive single-digit temperatures with broken heaters.

City and Marion County Public Health Department on Tuesday The owners of the premises were given a week’s time to fix things.

Jairo Rodas says that since he arrived about a year ago, his heater has broken down and the water is often only cold, which makes it difficult to cook or shower. He says that he has been called to the management, but it has not gone well. Now he is using a portable heater to stay warm.

“Big problem,” Rodas said. It’s a big, big problem.”

Neighbors Ayesha Hardy and Anthony Arnold say they have been without hot water for three weeks. Hardy says he has to drive 20 minutes to his mother’s house to get hot water. She says a local church has also donated thermoses.

“Your hands… it looks like you have hypothermia. We need help here. We need hot water,” Hardy said.

“My mother gave me a big pot to fill with hot water yesterday, but I can’t live like that. It’s like, I sleep here and I have to drive there,” Hardy said.

Arnold says he’s also dealing with a broken oven. He reached out to the management for help, but they did not respond.

“I mean why would you do that? This is our apartment you’re paying for. Everything that we have to do elsewhere, we’re paying for that here,” Arnold said.

He says he has emailed Complex twice in eight months and has received no response.

Some residents say they are also dealing with rats and have not received the help they need.

Lakeside Point did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
