Actor Ranveer Singh gave one of his finest performances playing the role of Kapil Dev in filmmaker Kabir Khan’s 83. Though the sports drama didn’t do well at the box office due to the third wave of coronavirus in the country, the actor’s performance was certainly appreciated. by the critics as well as the audience.
Singh has an interesting lineup of films including Yash Raj film’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Rohit Shetty’s comic-caper Circus, Karan Johar’s Rocky and Rani’s love story and Shankar’s remake of 2005 Tamil blockbuster Anniyan. Though each film belongs to a different genre, they represent what Singh wanted at this stage of his career – family entertainment.
Speaking to Mid-Day, the actor said, “I am going through a phase where I want to focus my energies on telling stories that can be accessed seamlessly by a wide section of the audience. “
He also revealed that he is deliberately choosing films that he can watch with his entire family. “I have become more family-oriented as a person, as the years have gone by. I have felt that my circle has become smaller. Right now, I prefer movies that I can watch with my in-laws, parents and kids in the family. ,
While there is an ongoing debate about the cinema-and-OTT combination, which has emerged since the outbreak of the pandemic, Singh, as an actor, feels a responsibility to bring audiences back to theatres, “When you are a Sitting and watching movies together (in a ) movie hall0, that cinematic experience creates a bond. Watching 3 Idiots (2009) with my friends is a shared experience that I will never forget. The community-approach binds people together. So, I want to be a part of films where a family has a shared experience; (movies) that don’t make anyone uncomfortable and don’t have a single watch. I want to bring people together through entertainment.”
