Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has written an open letter to farmers, congratulating them for their “historic victory” when the Center announced its decision to repeal three controversial agriculture laws, and asking them to help them in their future struggles. Party’s support assured.
Seeing that the struggle was not over yet, he asked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi Never again dared to conspire to enslave farmers in their own land by playing in the hands of a few capitalists and urged them to work towards fulfilling their promise of doubling farmers’ income by 2022.

Stating that the farmer knows what is for his benefit and what is not, the former Congress chief said, “Don’t dare to conspire to enslave the farmer in his own land by playing in the hands of some capitalists.” “Instead, the Prime Minister, as promised, ensure to double the income of farmers by 2022. For this, they should also release the roadmap of future plans as soon as possible. Prime Minister, don’t forget that power is a medium of service and there is no place for loot, stubbornness and arrogance in any democracy.
Gandhi said that the “satyagraha” won by the farmers in the last almost one year despite the severe cold, scorching heat, rain and all the troubles and atrocities, is unparalleled in the history of independent India.
I salute the sacrifice of more than 700 farmers and laborers in this struggle.
The Congress MP also said that the Gandhian way the farmers “fought against the arrogance of an autocratic ruler and forced him to take back his decision is a perfect example of the victory of truth over lies”.
He said that it is a historic day to remember the farmers and laborers who strengthened this “Satyagraha” by sacrificing their lives.
“I wish this would not have happened if the Center had heeded the demands of the farmers from the very beginning,” Gandhi said.
He said that achieving Minimum Support Price (MSP) on crops, repeal of controversial Electricity Amendment Act, reduction in tax burden on equipment used for farming, reduction in unexpected hike in diesel prices and finding a solution. The debt of farmers and laborers is a serious matter for further struggle.
The Congress leader said, “I assure all of you that like the present movement, I will raise my voice shoulder to shoulder in your future struggles along with every Congress worker.”
