Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol discussed the call after the game. He did not mention Buckner by name but did mention his terrible call.
“You wait three hours and you want it to be determined between the pitcher and the hitter. That was not the case,” Marmol said, via the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Buckner’s call was the latest controversy for him in less than a week. He was reprimanded for a strike three call on the Baltimore Orioles’ young star Gunnar Henderson when New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes threw an apparently low pitch.

MLB umpires have faced the wrath of players and fans since the beginning of the season. And while it’s a tough job, calls like this from Buckner, especially in critical game situations, are not what teams want to see.
