ISLAMABAD: The PTI leadership has directed its members of the National Assembly not to participate in the process of verification of resignations, which is scheduled to begin from June 6, sources told Geo News on Tuesday.

According to sources, the PTI leadership has directed its MPs not to meet National Assembly Speaker Raja Pervez Ashraf, who has asked the MNA to appear in person and confirm his resignation.

Sources said the party leadership has told the members that since they have resigned, no further action is required in this regard.

NA President Raja Pervez Ashraf on Monday personally summoned the PTI MLAs from June 6 to 10 and confirmed their resignations. The NA Secretariat has sent letters to all PTI MNAs who resigned on April 11.

The Speaker has invited the MNA in pursuance of paragraph (b) of sub-rule (2) of rule 43 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly 2007.

A spokesperson of the National Assembly said that the resignations of 30 MNAs would be verified on a daily basis and each member would get five minutes to verify their resignations.

“The government had targeted to complete the process by June 10, just before the presentation of the budget for the next fiscal year, which was expected to be presented in the National Assembly on the same day.”

It may be recalled that 131 members of the National Assembly belonging to PTI submitted their resignations to the then Deputy Speaker National Assembly Qasim Suri last month after the Imran Khan government was ousted through a no-confidence vote. Suri had accepted the resignation and issued a notification.

Later, newly elected president Raja Pervez Ashraf de-sealed the resignations of PTI MNA and announced to verify them to ascertain their veracity.

PTI reported NA. decided against returning to

In its core committee meeting held separately in Peshawar, PTI discussed the issue of resignation at length and decided against returning to the National Assembly immediately.

This was announced by senior PTI leader and former information minister Fawad Chaudhry.

Fawad said the government was considering accepting the resignations on personal grounds.

“If this happens, we will move the court as the PTI members of the National Assembly had resigned collectively, so the resignations should also be accepted collectively,” the former information minister said.
