Chelsea vs Bristol City: Women’s Super League – live

key events

11 min: Bright has a great high pass for Beaver-Jones but the forward is offside, Bristol barely get a glimpse of the ball. As I write their first attack, really good run from Napier and he ends it with Musovic needing to make a good save. Bristol may have already been relegated but they are a lethal team.

9 minutes: Hamano is bang for this, she’s absolutely everywhere at the moment. Chelsea prepare for another attack here, Retain attacks but is cleared by Connolly.

7 min: In a real show of intent as soon as Reitan scored the goal he ran to get the ball to restart the game, they knew the goal difference would make a difference. In the replay it seems that Bull’s foul might have happened on the edge of the box. Of course there is no VAR and so penalties apply.

Bristol city:

Preface

Hello and welcome back to our coverage of the Women’s Super League. Manchester City’s defeat to Arsenal earlier today left the title race wide open and Chelsea have the chance to close the gap on City when they take on Bristol City this evening.

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes had said the title race was over when the Blues lost to Liverpool in midweek, but it has restarted with City’s defeat. Gareth Taylor’s side are currently six points ahead but the Blues have two games in hand, including tonight’s match.

History would be made this season as no team had previously won the WSL title after losing three league matches. Both Chelsea and City have lost this amount in this campaign.

However, Bristol may have the edge in the race as they will be relegated from the league at the end of the season, but their performances have been good this campaign. Team news will be released at 6.45pm BST shortly before kick-off.
