Post-poll violence case: CBI questions two TMC MLAs

The CBI on Saturday questioned two Trinamool Congress MLAs in connection with the violence in West Bengal after last year’s assembly elections. A senior official gave this information.

He said that Abhijit Sinha, MLA from Labhpur in Birbhum district and Shahnawaz Hussain, MLA from Ketugram in East Burdwan, appeared in the morning for questioning before the CBI at the camp office in Durgapur.

“Both the MLAs were questioned for more than one and a half hours. They were asked about their activities on the dates when incidents of violence were reported. The interrogation sessions were videographed,” said the CBI official. Both the MLAs are considered close to TMC’s Birbhum district president Anubrata Mandal.

The officer said the CBI has sought the mobile number of Mandal’s daughter, which they suspect was used by him to make and receive several calls during the days of the violence. “There are records of calls and calls from several close relatives of Mandal. We suspect that the number belongs to his daughter and that is why we have demanded it.
