Jhargram: Trinamool booth chief resigns after Abhishek’s order

A Trinamool Congress block president from Belpahari in Jhargram district has quit following a recent decree by party’s national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, stating that those in the post cannot do contractor jobs.

Abhijit Dutta told reporters on Saturday that he had quit on Thursday and sent a letter to the district leadership in this regard.

Running a family is not possible without a contractor’s job. I will remain a loyal soldier, a grassroots party worker. But, as directed by our leader Abhishek Banerjee to all TMC postholders, who are contractors, I am hereby relinquishing the post of block president,” he said.

Recently, at a public meeting in Haldia in East Medinipur, Banerjee had said that TMC leaders holding any post in the party should not run their contractor business.

In the wake of the opposition’s allegations, Banerjee apparently said so BJP and CPI(M) that TMC leaders were collecting money from development projects in rural and urban areas either as contractors or in connivance with contractors.

BJP district president Debashish Kundu said, ‘It is an eye wash. Abhijeet will run the show despite not being the block president in future. Illegal gratification from TMC and projects have become synonymous.

Trinamool Congress state spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said Banerjee is of the view that no party functionary should indulge in contract business. “We believe in transparency and Dutta’s decision proves it. Instead BJP should keep a mirror to itself.
