Police pull evidence from fifth ward house after standoff with accused of shooting 3 HPD officers

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) – Investigators are examining results at a home in the Fifth Ward on Friday after an hour-long standoff with a suspect accused of shooting three police officers near downtown Houston.

According to police sources, Roland Caballero opened fire on the officers after the chase. Police said he was taken to the hospital after being shot in the neck.

According to police, two of the three officers who were shot are now out of the hospital recovering at home.

Caballero faces several prior charges in Harris County, including felony assault with a deadly weapon.

On Friday morning, Houston police and Houston fire officers were seen rummaging through evidence at the home in the 1800 block of Lockwood, where the suspect was barricaded.

The condition of the house was bad. All the windows were busted and there was also a large hole in the side, which appears to be due to the efforts of the officers to reach the suspect during the standoff.

At one point, firefighters can be seen using tools to dismantle what appears to be gun safe.

Investigators were collecting evidence on the spot.

The officers managed to set the Caballero on fire. Once he was out of the car, Caballero carjacked a white Mercedes Benz at gunpoint, Finer said.
