Police missed the deadline for submission of challan in Noor Mukadam case

ISLAMABAD: The investigators of the Noor Muqadam murder case have failed to produce the challan in the court even after the legal deadline expired almost a week ago.

Police officers involved in the investigation told dawn On the condition of anonymity that the challan of a case under the law must be produced in the court within 14 days after the suspect is sent on judicial remand.

The main accused in the murder, Zaheer Jafar, was sent on judicial remand on August 2.

His parents have also been arrested and sent to judicial remand.

As per the law, the officials said that an interim report of the case must be submitted to the court within 17 days if the accused or suspect is neither identified nor arrested, despite being identified.

He said that the complete or incomplete challan should be filed in the court within 14 days after the accused is sent to jail on judicial remand.

But in the high profile case, neither the complete nor the incomplete challan has been presented in the court.

When contacted, the investigating officer of the case, Inspector Abdul Sattar, confirmed dawn That neither complete nor incomplete challan of the case was presented in the Court. Some reports are awaited, which led to the delay, he said.

He said the forensic report of the mobile phone submitted to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) is awaited. Apart from this, reports of some tests, including DNA, done on the victim’s samples are also awaited at the Punjab Forensic Science Agency.

Another official associated with the investigation said that the challan will be presented soon.

If there is any further delay, the investigators will seek time from the court, he said.

“Not depositing the challan in the court within the legal time limit is a violation of law,” the official said. Investigators should have followed the rules.
