Death of missing Woodstock, Ont. Woodstock police said Tuesday that the woman was being investigated as a suspect last week.

The update comes days after investigators revealed that the body of 30-year-old Karen Cunningham was found in the area of ​​Mill Street and Sixth Street on February 3, a day after she was reported missing.

The area had a heavy police presence due to road closures throughout the day on Friday for what strict police could only call an “active investigation”.

Police launched an investigation into Cunningham’s disappearance on Thursday, saying police and his family were concerned for his well-being.

Cunningham was known to be driving a black 2010 Mazda sedan, police said. A parked vehicle matching that description was found near Mill and Sixth Streets on Friday. According to police, investigators found a body inside.

Few details have since been made public, but on Tuesday police said they were continuing to investigate Cunningham’s death, which is being treated as suspicious.

on tuesday a gofundme campaign was started to assist Cunningham’s family. By late afternoon, over $500 had been raised.

“The loss of his beloved daughter/sister Karen has left a hole that can never be filled. Karen’s blue eyes and bright smile will be greatly missed,” says a GoFundMe launched by a friend of Karen’s.

According to her Facebook profile, Cunningham had worked as a personal support worker at Woodingford Lodge, a long-term care facility in Woodstock, since 2019, and studied at the Woodstock campus of Fanshawe College.

“Karen had a larger-than-life personality, unmatched energy, and a heart bigger than the universe. She had a way of making anyone around her feel like family and could make any situation comical. Our lives already feel so empty now that he is no longer physically with us.

The GoFundMe says that a visitation for Cunningham will be held on February 10 at Brock & Visser Funeral Home from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a funeral the next day at 11 a.m.
