Police: Chris Elder arrested for allegedly assaulting child in Queens

New York — a queens The child is recovering after police say he was randomly attacked while going out with his grandmother on Friday.

Little Sophia’s face was covered in blood and bruised, reports CBS2’s Andrea Grimes. The innocent girl, about 3 years old, spent part of the day in the hospital.

Investigators say he was suddenly attacked while going out with his grandmother.

Maria Simeira said, “I see, my granddaughter falls down.”

Simira says that Sophia was sitting in a blue car as they went to pick up the trash on Robinson Avenue and 45th Street before 6:30 a.m. flushing,

Then the police say that suddenly 31-year-old Chris Elder reached Simira shouting at them, then took Sophia inside and overturned the car.

Investigators say the elder was arrested early and has done so in the past.

“He has a history of unprovoked attacks on strangers, including punching a 9-year-old and a 66-year-old in the head on December 11 last year,” said head of detectives James Essig.

Police say the Elder was released shortly after those December attacks, with Sophia’s uncle worried about something happening again.

Police confirm that the Elder has previously violated a security order in another case.

In Spanish, Sofia’s uncle said, “I asked the officer, what is stopping this man from coming back?”

Elder faces multiple charges, including assault and reckless endangerment. Police say that he is currently in custody.

Meanwhile, Sofita’s family insists that the baby will be fine.
