RAMALLAH, Palestinian Territory: Hundreds of Palestinian lawyers held a rare street protest on Monday in what they described as “rule by decree” of the Palestinian Authority, condemning President Mahmoud Abbas to rule without parliament.
The Palestinian Legislative Council – created under the Oslo peace deal with Israel – has been inactive since 2007, meaning that Abbas has headed without a functioning parliament for almost his entire term as president.
But a new leadership of the Palestinian Bar Association has sought to put pressure on the PA.
