Over 50 injured in Niagara Falls-bound bus accident

All 57 people on board the Niagara Falls-bound bus that crashed Saturday in central New York state were hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to serious, officials said.

State police said no other vehicles were involved in the rollover at 12:41 p.m. on the New York State Thruway near Weedsport Village.

Twenty-five patients were taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, a spokesman said.

The agency said the destination was tourist magnet Niagara Falls, but the origin of the bus was not immediately clear.

The Associated Press reported that the bus was in the Fishkill area in New York’s Hudson Valley before heading to Niagara Falls.

The state police said the cause of the accident is being investigated.

Images from the scene showed a bus with a split windshield missing and dents on its passenger side and roof. Debris was scattered nearby and some parts of the vehicle were covered with greenery.

Weedsport is about 25 miles west of Syracuse.
