Ford highlighted its government’s promised gas tax cuts during a press conference, which is set to take effect Friday.

The premier was asked why the government was not paying more attention to higher insurance rates, as gas prices could still rise in the coming months despite a temporary tax cut.

“I’m going to respectfully disagree with anyone who says that an overall 10 cent cut in the gas tax affects and doesn’t help the people of Ontario. It helps them in a big, massive way,” Ford said.

“I know we’re working on a plan for insurance companies,” he continued.

“As far as I’m concerned, it’s completely unfair for the people of Brampton or Scarborough to go after these people based on their postal codes. It’s going to end very quickly.”

Ford said insurance companies “must treat all people fairly.”

“Insurance companies are making a lot of money and it is coming out of Ontario’s pocket. So we are going over all of them,” he said.

In the Progressive Conservative budget released in April, which doubled as the party platform for June’s election, the government said it intended to propose changes that would allow consumers to have “more choices” when buying auto insurance. .

But the proposal lacked specifics about what they actually had in mind.

“Ontario will move forward with additional measures to make choices, crack down on fraud, and enhance fairness,” the document said in part.

Meanwhile, the New Democrats have said they want “postal code discrimination,” which sees residents paying rates based on where they live.
