OIC will continue to support Kashmiris’ right to self-determination: Envoy

ISLAMABAD: Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Special Envoy on Jammu and Kashmir Yousef Eldobe has said that the OIC will continue to support the right of self-determination of the people of Kashmir.

The special envoy said he would prepare and present a report on the situation in the region during the next OIC ministerial meeting.

He expressed these views while discussing the situation in Kashmir with the representatives of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) in Pakistan on Sunday.

Altaf Wani, Ghulam Mohammad Safi, Faiz Naqshbandi and Sheikh Abdul Mateen were part of the APHC delegation that met the OIC special envoy.

He will present a report on the situation in the region during the next OIC ministerial meeting

This is the envoy’s second visit to Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. His visit to AJK last year was rewarding as he had the opportunity to meet the Kashmiri leadership, Mr. Eldobe said.

He assured the delegation of Kashmiri leaders that the OIC would continue to extend support for Kashmir.

In the coming days, the OIC envoy will get a direct account of the gravity of the situation in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and along the Line of Control.

The Kashmir issue is similar to the question of Palestine because, like the Palestinian people, the human rights of the people of Kashmir are being violated and they are facing the threat of demographic change.

The envoy reiterated that the OIC has long been supporting the right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to self-determination in accordance with United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions.

Foreign ministers of the OIC Liaison Group on Jammu and Kashmir had earlier extended support to Kashmiris during a meeting on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York in September.

Following the meeting, which was chaired by Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, Secretary General of the OIC, a joint statement was issued.

The meeting discussed developments related to the Kashmir issue and the OIC’s efforts in the struggle for the people of Kashmir to achieve their rights, including the right to self-determination accepted by the Islamic Summit and all statements issued by the Foreign Council, the statement said. Is. Minister in addition to decisions of the United Nations and Security Council since 1948.

The participants expressed their commitment to continue supporting the Kashmiri people to reach a sustainable solution that safeguards their dignity and rights. He prayed for the soul of late Kashmiri leader, Mr. Ali Geelani.

The Liaison Group raised the issue in international forums, particularly at the United Nations, to demand immediate action to improve the human rights situation in Kashmir.
