NSC approves Pakistan’s first national security policy

The National Security Committee (NSC) – the highest forum for coordination on security issues – on Monday approved the country’s first National Security Policy, aimed at strengthening the security apparatus to deal with all internal and external challenges. To ensure the safety of citizens.

The security policy was unveiled at the 36th NSC meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Imran Khan, with the participation of key ministers, chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, chiefs of all services, national security advisors and senior civil and military officials. meeting.

Briefing about the meeting, National Security Advisor (NSA) Moeed Yusuf highlighted that Pakistan is moving towards a comprehensive national security framework, while the ultimate objective of national security is to ensure the safety and security of civilians.

It was informed in the meeting that the policy has been prepared in consultation with all concerned stakeholders, the official statement said.

“The NSP has kept economic security at the core to ensure a citizen-centric approach towards security,” Yusuf told the meeting.

According to the NSA, a strong economy will create additional resources which in turn will be distributed judiciously to further strengthen military and human security.

It was highlighted that a detailed implementation framework has been put in place through which the National Security Division will review the progress in collaboration with the concerned Ministries and Departments.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Imran Khan stressed that Pakistan’s security lies in the safety of its citizens and expressed confidence that Pakistan is well prepared to deal with any internal and external threats.

Describing the creation and approval of the NSP as a historic moment, the Premier said that the policy should guide all organs of the government to ensure that their efforts are in sync with the overall direction of the NSP.

He directed the NSA to submit an implementation progress report to the NSC every month.

The NSC members, while approving the policy, commended the National Security Division and all other government departments for this effort, the statement said.

Meanwhile, the revitalization of the Planning Committee and the expansion of the Advisory Board of NSC were also unanimously approved by the participants during the meeting.

The new policy will now be presented to the federal cabinet for its effect before being officially adopted. “A public version of the document will be released in due course.”
