Officials with a public investigation into the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shooting are warning this week could be difficult for some as the investigation will focus on domestic and family violence.

Senior commission attorney Emily Hill says the material will be “difficult and impactful to many.”

Among these documents are five “multi-hour” interview tapes during interrogation with the shooter’s wife, Lisa Banfield, who will be called as witnesses on Friday. He will not have to face cross-examination.

The commotion began 13 hours after Gabriel Wortman attacked Banfield, and interrogative interviews found that he had attacked both Banfield and his first wife.

Brenda Forbes, the gunman’s former neighbor, will testify on Wednesday. Forbes has told the investigation that in 2013, she filed a police complaint about an alleged incident of domestic violence that involved her and Banfield and revealed that she had illegal weapons.
