Northeast Monsoon: MK Stalin reviews preparedness

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Saturday reviewed the monsoon preparedness with top state officials and district collectors and directed them to ensure all necessary measures in view of incessant rains.

The northeast monsoon has been active over Tamil Nadu for the past fortnight and is bringing in heavy rains, the government has informed the state, with 41 per cent excess rainfall during this period.

Low pressure has also been forecast in the Bay of Bengal on November 9.

It said Tamil Nadu has received 969.9 mm of rain since January, which is 37 per cent more than the normal 706 mm.

The water level in 58 of the 90 dams in the state was more than 50 per cent of their capacity, while many other lakes and other water bodies were also full, it said.
