North Korea’s first Covid wave has passed with no clear signs of devastation

Seoul – When North Korea disclosed its first COVID-19 outbreak last month, leader Kim Jong Un called it one of the biggest upheavals since the establishment of the country. Its 26 million people were illiterate and malnourished, and its health system is among the worst in the world.

But according to defectors and medical experts familiar with the country’s health system, after six weeks, the country is reporting a dwindling number of Covid-19 cases and appears to have avoided a complete catastrophe.
