Niantic and Fold App Partner to Build an AR-Based Bitcoin Hunting Experience

Bitcoin payments company Fold App is teaming up with Niantic to provide an AR-based crypto hunting experience. This partnership serves as the company’s entry into the real world. metaverse, where people interact directly with virtual currencies floating around them.

The concept is largely similar to the global sensation, pokemon go, where players have to go out and search for said items on their phones. In the Fold app, however, monsters will be replaced with bitcoins and other special items.

Fold CEO Will Reeves described the project as the most fun and easy way for anyone to earn their first bitcoin. “Anyone can use our app to earn bitcoin and other rewards just by exploring the world around them. We will always make it easy for anyone to participate in the bitcoin economy, regardless of education or technical expertise. has been important,” reads Press release,

Dubbed, ‘Fold AR’, the feature is currently in limited beta access and lets players open a new block every ten minutes, generating an explosion of rewards. Players will be awarded a satoshi, which is the smallest unit of bitcoin, or extra wheel spins that add bonus rewards to their Fold debit card. It is worth noting that users do not need folded cards to play the game. However, holders get additional spins and increased reward.

The block also has time extensions and orange bullets that provide immunity from the animated shitcoins surrounding it. These critters are designed to try to steal your hard-earned bitcoins in the game. Sometimes, users may even get a ‘poison pill’ that completely drains your bitcoin income.

The full Fold AR experience is due to be released next year and will allow individuals to find, trade, and even hide bitcoin in their surroundings. Over time, crypto traders can engage with the community to host in-game events and offer incentives.
