Want Monkeypox Vaccines The supply is being overtaken in New York City and Washington, D.C., which are two of the first cities in the US to offer vaccinations against the virus.
The DC Health Department announced that 300 appointments for the monkeypox vaccine would be available on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but those locations were booked by Monday afternoon.
New York City also began offering the Xynos vaccine at the Chelsea Sexual Health Clinic, but by Monday all appointments were filled.
In both New York City and DC, eligibility was limited to gay and bisexual men, as they are disproportionately affected by monkeypox. DC was also giving Vaccine sex workers and employees of the establishment where sexual activity takes place.
Biden admin promotes testing for monkeypox
New York City has reported at least 48 cases of monkeypox, while DC has reported 16 cases.
Health officials said earlier this month that the US government had 72,000 doses of Jynneos vaccine in its stockpile.
The Jynneos vaccine is a two-dose regimen that is administered at four-week intervals. A person is fully vaccinated after the second dose.

There are about 100 million doses of the old smallpox vaccine, ACAM2000, in the US, but it has potentially serious side effects and CDC officials say there will be “serious discussions” before using it.
