A woman from Tracadie, NB was arrested impaired driving After allegedly hitting his car with an RCMP vehicle.

In a recent release, police say that a member of the Tracady RCMP was en route to assist the Neguac RCMP with a call for unrest around 8:20 p.m. Wednesday.

“While merging onto Route 11 near the intersection of the Rivire-ए-la-Truet route, the member encountered an SUV that was driving the wrong direction on the off-ramp,” the release said.

“The member tried to move out of the way, but the SUV collided head-on with the police vehicle.”

It said the police vehicle suffered “serious damage” and the officer was trapped inside. The SUV driver fled the spot and another driver stopped to help the officer out of the vehicle.

The officer, who was slightly injured, looked for the driver of the SUV and found him in the tall grass about 300 meters away, where he was arrested. The release said the driver was not injured.

The RCMP member was taken to the hospital and later released.

The woman who was arrested underwent a breath analyzer test at the Trakady RCMP detachment, and the tests were recorded at almost three times the legal alcohol limit. She was released and is due to appear in Tresady Provincial Court on February 24, 2023.

Members of the Tracaddy RCMP, Tracaddy Fire Department and Ambulance New Brunswick were at the scene, the release said. One lane of the highway remained closed for several hours and has since reopened.
