New billboard in West Kelowna, BC sparks outrage among many Globalnews.ca

A new banner in West Kelowna that questions what children are being taught at school is sparking outrage because of its message and the graphics on it.

A billboard on Highway 97 in West Kelowna shows a cartoon woman, who appears to be a teacher, wearing a mask in front of a rainbow flag with the caption “What are your kids really learning in school? “

An advocate for the gay community was shocked to see the billboard, calling it ‘discriminatory’.

Wilbur Turner, president of Advocacy Canada, said, “This is fueling hate against 2SLGBTQ, against teachers who are supportive and trying to create safe spaces in schools, and discriminating against entire communities. “

The group responsible for the billboard, one of the co-organisers of Get Awake Canada, shared the meaning of the message with Global News.

However, Turner says the billboard’s message is targeted at the gay community and when it comes to children, it is doing more harm than good.

Turner said, “This targeting is really harmful to kids, especially kids who are trans or gender diverse and it sends them the message that it’s not okay for them to be who they are.” “They should not fight for their existence”
