Met Gala 2024: Netizens give Alia Bhatt best dressed crown but actor doesn’t land on foreign press’ lists

Alia Bhatt turned heads at the Met Gala 2024, as she graced the red carpet in a timeless mint green Sabyasachi saree adorned with a long, dramatic trail. Photos and videos of the actor from the global event have been circulating widely on social media. While Alia’s family has shown their support and excitement for her appearance through their social media posts, it’s her passionate fanbase that has been particularly vocal in expressing their admiration for her stunning look on the red carpet. However, the actor has failed to feature on the Best Dressed lists of foreign publications such as Vogue, New York Times, BBC and The Vanity Fair. This didn’t stop Indians from celebrating her Met Gala appearance though.

Alia’s sister, Shaheen Bhatt, took to social media to share photos from the event, expressing her emotions with a butterfly emoji and a crying emoji. Alia’s mother, Soni Razdan, also joined in the celebration by sharing a video of Alia. Soni showered praise on her daughter and wrote, “My baby girl making everybody proud.” Soni also commended designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for his craftsmanship, describing Alia’s saree as “a stunning @sabyasachiofficial work of pure art.”

Fans were equally enamored with Alia’s Met Gala look, showering her with praise for showcasing Indian culture with her attire and declaring her the Best Dressed celebrity of the event. The fan wrote, “Alia Bhatt effortlessly nailed the theme at the #MetGala tonight, showcasing how it’s done!! Her impeccable style easily secured her the title of best dressed, hands down 🥺❤️ #AliaBhatt.” Another fan wrote, “Alia Bhatt easily the best dressed at the #MetGala tonight!!! she won sorry.”

Drawing parallels to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s cinematic aesthetics, a fan remarked that Alia looked straight out of a Bhansali movie. He wrote, “Alia Bhatt for Met Gala 2024 looks straight out of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie!!🤷🏻‍♀️.”

Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Alia’s saree was adorned with authentic gemstones and took 163 craftsmen to create. Speaking to Vogue India about her look, Alia said, “I am feeling great. I am very excited. Months of preparation have come down to this moment. I am wearing Sabyasachi Mukherjee. This is my second time at the Met and the first time wearing a saree. When I thought of the theme ‘The Garden Of Time’ I thought that there is nothing more timeless than a saree. This is all hand-embroidery. It has took 1905 man hours and 163 craftsmen, workers, everybody to make this garment.”

This marked Alia Bhatt’s second appearance at the Met Gala, following her debut last year in a Prabal Gurung couture ensemble.
