Money changer arrested for taking hostage of FIA team in Bahawalnagar

Bahawalnagar: A money changer who had allegedly taken hostage a five-member team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has been arrested with a weapon during raids at his shop in Nadir Shah market here.

According to A-Division police, a five-member FIA team from Bahawalpur circle led by Sub-Inspector Ms Musrat Ayub raided Ali Raza Jewelers – a jewelery-cum-money changer shop run by Seth Abid and his son Rizwan Ali. , on 5 December.

Police said that as soon as FIA officials entered the shop and introduced themselves, five people present there tried to flee with huge amounts of foreign and Pakistani currency.

When the officers tried to stop them, Rizwan held them at gunpoint and threatened to shoot them if they did not leave the shop, police said. He said that as soon as the officers were stopped, Rizwan and others fled the spot.

Later, on the complaint of SI Musarat, a case was registered against the six suspects at A-Division police station, police said.

Rizwan was arrested by the police on December 6 and another case was registered against him under sections 506/B, 353, 186, 149 and 148 of the PPC.

District police spokesperson Shehzad Ishfaq said the weapon pointed by Rizwan towards the FIA ​​team has also been recovered from him and he has been sent to the district jail.
