Koshyari’s visit begins, student hostels not inaugurated

Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari on the first day of his three-day visit to Marathwada on Thursday appeared to shy away from the confrontation with the state government over the inauguration of student hostels in Nanded district.

Earlier this week, the state cabinet had expressed its “displeasure” over Koshyari’s plan to hold review meetings with district collectors in the area and also pointed out that the hostels he was planning to inaugurate were first were working since then, and the Raj Bhavan should have coordinated. Program with State Government It had stated that there was no communication from Raj Bhavan regarding the programme.

On Wednesday, the Raj Bhavan took its first step by issuing a revised schedule, which removed “review meetings at collector’s offices” from the schedule and mentioned only “meetings” with district officials at circuits and rest houses in Nanded, Hingoli and Parbhani. Did. No other changes were made to the program.

Koshyari was in Nanded on Thursday, the first day of his three-day tour. He visited Swami Ramanand Teerth Marathwada University as per schedule, but did not inaugurate girls’ and boys’ minority hostels. Raj Bhavan sources confirmed this but did not elaborate.

“The Constitution has given me the task of Scheduled Areas and three Development Boards. So, whenever I visit these districts, I call some officers and discuss with them. The work is going well here (in Nanded) and some work is such that it can be implemented in other areas as well.

He said that as the chancellor, it was his duty to visit all the universities. “due to this COVID-19, I could not visit universities. Since the Covid-19 (cases) are decreasing now, I am traveling.”

The Cabinet had asked Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte to personally meet the Secretary to the Governor and explain that this behavior of operating as a second Shakti Kendra was not appropriate and in line with his role. The government had also objected to the inauguration of the hostels, saying the governor was doing so without coordinating or communicating his programs to the state government.

Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik on Thursday said that the governor seems to have abandoned the plan to inaugurate two hostels after learning that they have been occupied for the past three years. “We never had any objection to his visit. Our only view was that he cannot interfere in government business. If there is any interference in the government, we will continue to raise issues.”
